RE: Fall VON Session on VoIP Peering

Thanks Steve - looking forward to your post. If you were looking for a target audience to walk your talk through I would be glad to listen...

MR's post of the UC San Diego free peering for Universities got me thinking about the commercial world's approach, and
1) whether or not the PSTN or Cell Phone Operators are likely to be receptive or not to settlement free peering with VOIP operators, and
2) if there is settlement between VOIP folks, what metrics are used.

I assume that VOIP-VOIP interconnection is free, but maybe it isn't. Forgive me if this was already discussed on the list - just catching up here.

There is a lot of focus on some of the technology issues - Session Border
controllers etc., but not as much on the commercial issues. As I get my
thoughts straight on my presentation I will post to this group for comments
and ideas.

Steve - have you seen a white paper on VOIP Peering in particular? I'm curious about the economics, the motivations, the process, etc.
