2007 in review
It's time for a review of my musical goals for the year 2007. My musical goals for the year were to challenge myself, improve my playing, expand my repertoire, and break out of familiar habits. These goals are highly subjective. Not only that, but I have no one to whom I can turn for an outside opinion. Nevertheless, I believe that I have been successful in meeting my objectives. I have improved my sense of time and harmony. To a lesser extent I have made some progress regarding my melodic sensibilities.
I did perform in public eleven times during 2007 (and will probably slip in one more before the end of the year), receiving favorable feedback regarding my style and execution.
Regarding gear, I have stuck with the digital rig acquired in January as a reaction to the limitations (size, weight and volume) of tube amplifiers. Furthermore I have sold nearly all of my unused gear, satisfying my longer-term objective to focus on the development of my skills and musical sensibility rather than on the acquisition and maintenance of physical inventory.
