No ano de 1994, a 10 de fevereiro, transcorreu o centenário do nascimento de Escolástica Maria da Conceição Nazaré, mais identificada como Menininha do Gantois.
A profunda relação entre a personalidade de Mãe Menininha e segmentos do mais alto significado no processo cultural brasileiro justifica a emissão Salvador Bahia quede um selo postal comemorativo à data.
A Cidade de Salvador—Bahia—que foi, durante séculos, o mais importante porto de ingresso da gente africana e, com ela, da cultura do outro lado do Atlântico, incorporou e conservou valores religiosos de imensa valia e importância, que tiveram em Mãe Menininha uma das mais altas expressões de sabedoria.¶
Na sua casa de culto manteve, autêntica e respeitável, a herança que recebeu. Ali, com competência inexcedível, aquela filha de Oxum dirigiu Yaôs, ekedis, alabês e ogans em clima de fidelidade ao legado e de sadia convivência com os demais segmentos baianos.
O centenário do nascimento de Mãe Menininha do Gantois destaca-se dentre as inúmeras homenagens que a Empresa Brasileira de Correios e Telégrafos tem prestado a grandes personalidades marcantes do cenário cultural brasileiro.

BIRTH CENTENNIAL OF "MÃE MENININHA DO GANTOIS"¶
In 1994, on February 10 we it was celebrated the centenary of the birth of Escolástica Maria da Conceição Nazaré, widely known as "Menininha do Gantois".
The deep relationship between the personality of "Mãe Menininha" and segments of the highest significance in the Brazilian cultural process justifies the issuing of a postage stamp celebrating that date.
The city of Salvador, Bahia, that for a century has been the major port of entrance of the African people and consequently of the culture coming from the other side of the Atlantic, has incorporated and conserved significant and rich religious values which had in "Mãe Menininha" one of the greatest expressions of wisdom.
At her place of worship she has maintained authentic and respectable the heritage that was given to her. There, with unequivocal competence that daughter of "Oxum" has addressed "Yaôs", "ekedis", "alabês" and "ogans" within a climate of fidelity to the legacy and a healthy socializing with different segments of Bahia population.
The centenary of birth of "Mãe Menininha do Gantois" is one of the highlights among the many other homages that the Brazilian Enterprise of Posts and Telegraphs has been rendered to remarkable personalities of the Brazilian cultural context.
