Please review draft-carroll-dynmobileip-cdma-04.txt
Hi.
The above document has been under IESG review for some time. The
central issue that has been discussed is that the document extends
radius, in ways that violate a "MUST NOT" clause of the radius spec.
The authors have argued that this is not a big deal, but it's not
clear to me whether the aaa-doctors community agrees with this or
not. If the radius experts think that it is a "big deal", the IESG (I
believe) would support blocking publication or include a somewhat
nasty note pointing out the issue. On the other hand, if we can reach
an agreement that this is no big deal (maybe with some additional text
clarifications in the document), then the document can just be
published.
There was recently a discussion again involving the document authors
and myself (as middleman) funneling comments back and forth to
Bernard. My sense of that thread (which did not complete) is that we
might be converging on what is going on, how (in)appropriate this is,
etc. What I'd love to see is a completion of that thread with
convergence and mutual agreeement on document changes, etc. I'm not
sure that can be achieved, but I'm hopeful.
What I'm asking for:
1) Can I get a couple of volunteers to review the document and comment
as to the significance of the "extensions"?
2) Can we (if appropriate) continue the dialog with the authors and
attempt to come to a common understanding?
3) short of that, can the document just be published, published with a
note, or what?
The IESG will discuss this at its telechat tomorrow again, so a quick
review would be much appreciated.
I will (shortly) forward to the list some background messages and the
email exchange mentioned above.
