I definitely agree with this approach. If the documents described in "2"
are available from the beginning, people who write to the protocols can
simply say "my implementation supports RFCxyz metrics". If the industry
finds that more/fewer metrics are actually needed, new sets of metrics
could evolve... as opposed to having to redesign the protocol.
As cool as BGP Communities are, I think they could have been even cooler if
there were more documents like "2" written at the time they first became
available. People would be more likely to let them pass from AS-to-AS
rather than rewriting them (when received,)to a new "local number" that may
have the same meaning but with a different number.
Anyway, I'll let this thread fade and pick things up in the new
document-oriented thread...
