At long last I've been able to catch up on the flurry of messages on the CDN
list wrt routing and forwarding loops.
At the face-to-face in MN, I was in favor of starting with the simple method
of limiting forwarding, and I still feel that way. At least for the time
being, I don't think content providers will be comfortable with arbitrary
redirection to CDNs they've never heard of, nor will the authoritative CDN.
Allowing two levels, as Oliver suggested at one point, would permit a "CDN" to
actually be the aggregate of multiple quasi-independent CDNs with separate DNS
redirection systems, and I can live with that. But I've yet to see a
compelling argument for one of the more complicated approaches.
