Their DNS implementation allows UTF-8 encoded names, so I assumed that the
APIs for the network interfaces supported it as well. Mea culpa if this is
not the case (I am left wondering how names get resolved if that is truly
the situation however).

The interface to DNS would seem to be the important part for this group,
and apparently it does support UTF-8.
Good question to ask though, does Solaris' UTF-8 support extend to the
resolver APIs?
