Re: [idn] W.G. Last Call on "Requirements of Internationalized Domain Names"
My apologies for replying to my own post, but I realized that people
might not understand why I'm suggesting a limit to the full standards
in RFC1123, including length et al. Buffer overflows. If one concludes
that applications not allowing for this are broken anyway, one could
use instead:
[2.6] The protocol MUST work for all features of DNS, IPv4, and
IPv6. The protocol MUST NOT allow an IDN with characters other than
alphabet (A-Za-z), digits (0-9), minus sign (-), and period (.) to be
returned to a requestor that does not request IDNs. This provision
MUST be enforced by either nameservers or resolvers and SHOULD be
enforced by both.
This will allow for long domain names created by ACE.
Thanks,
-Allen
