Most of the apps that do this for URLs are already manipulating
rich-text and
so its not that big of a deal to underline or colorize text. It is a big
deal
for everything else though. How many logfile viewers do it?

How many apps are going to do ACE transliteration? Will ping?
traceroute?
netstat? etc?

Lots of things are feasible but so impractical that they are unexpected
