MPLS draft-kompella-mpls-bundle-05.txt

NAME OF I-D:

  http://search.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-kompella-mpls-bundle-05.txt

SUMMARY

This ID describes how parallel links between a pair of routers can
be treated as a single "bundle" as far as their TE information is
concerned, for reasons of better scalability. Additionally, the
mechanisms for RSVP-TE and CR-LDP to do traffic admission and
bandwidth accounting on bundles is described.

WHERE DOES IT FIT IN THE PICTURE OF THE SUB-IP WORK

Belongs in MPLS. The ID explains how to control and measure
  TE info for a "bundle".

WHY IS IT TARGETED AT THIS WG

This ID extends the mechanisms and procedures of RSVP-TE and CR-LDP
  and hence belongs in MPLS.

JUSTIFICATION

The primary motivation for this work is scalability of TE info.
This is useful for packet-switched networks, as well as for
optical networks, where the number of parallel links (fibers,
lambdas in a fiber, ...) are very large.

There was a lot of discussion in the MPLS over this draft; the
consensus was that this ID addressed a real requirement, and there
was wide support to make it a MPLS WG document.
