RE: Last Minute item on the IESG Agenda

W.r.t draft-santesson-tls-ume-04.txt draft:

     struct {
            opaque user_principal_name<0..2^16-1>;
            opaque domain_name<0..2^16-1>;
     } UpnDomainHint;

So they cater for 64K for username and domain name??
Wow... we need more bandwidth in our future networks

I also find the use of SHALL and MAY not so great.
Maybe I am too senstitive to those keywords
possibly many of the uppercase uses can be just lowercase?

Not sure it is worth a discuss though, in fact I doubt it.
Russ knows what he brings to IESG for stds track

On page 6, I am surprised it is only RECOMMENDED to use some form of stringPrep.
That feels like the current MS implementations does not do it and so only deals
with US ASCI for now? Which I think is not good.

Subject: Last Minute item on the IESG Agenda

I apologize for the very late posting, but this came only in the last second of the last minute.

There is a supplementary item, including two TLS-related documents for the agenda of the IESG telechat tomorrow:

http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-santesson-tls-ume-04.txt
http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-santesson-tls-supp-00.txt

Both aim to become Proposed Standards.

If you have any comments or concerns please let me know until COB today, Wednesday 4/12.

If you have enough reasons to believe that you may have some concerns, but do not have the time to review and provide comments today, please let me know as well, and I will ask for a DEFER.

Thanks and Regards,

Dan
