Eliot, Just to make sure that I understand the requirement here. Do you assume that the data is writeable only by NETCONF? What if another protocol maychange the same set of data or part of it?
I think it should work in reverse as well, so long as the protocol semantics allow for it. That is to say, you have to have an explicit locking capability.
