IBMIB BOF

I would like to request an IBMIB BOF. The purpose of this group will be to
standardize a set of MIBs for managing InfiniBand protocols and devices.

There is a mailing list available for discussing the proposed Infiniband MIB
work. To subscribe send mail to

I am not speaking for Intel. And Intel rarely speaks for me

I have a proposed agenda:

 5 Min Agenda Bashing
10 Min Who is the IBTA and where can I get the specifications
30 Min Charter Bashing
	5 Min - Framework
15 Min - What MIBs might be discussed
10 Min - What Drafts are needed
30 Min Do we form a WG ?
20 Min A search for editors

I would like a 2 hour timeslot if it is available, I will of course adjust
the agenda for a 1 hour meeting slot.

A proposed WG charter (Strawman of course) follows

Description of Working Group:

The importance of managing InfiniBand with SNMP has reached a critical point
wherein a standardized approach seems to be the only solution. Several
vendors from the InfiniBand Trade Association (IBTA) have proposed taking
this problem to the IETF with the intent of generating one "standard"
specification. The InfiniBand MIB WG is Chartered to define a set of
management objects that instrument various InfiniBand devices HCAs, TCAs,
switches, and routers and the InfiniBand protocols.

This set of objects should be largely compliant with, and even draw from the
approved InfiniBand (TM) Trade Association specifications, although there is
no requirement that any specific object be present or absent. These
specifications are freely available at http://www.infinibandta.org/

The working group will coordinate with the Management Working Group in the
IBTA (MGTWG IBTA)

The MIB object definitions produced will be for use by SNMP and will be
adequately consistent with other SNMP objects, standards and conventions.
The objects will be defined in SMIv2

Goals and Milestones:
(To be determined at the BOF)
No Current Internet-Drafts
(Hopefully a framework draft available prior to Minneapolis)
