The idea is to find a least-common-denominator that you
can have some reasonable expectation of being able to use.
Those particular settings have a fairly widespread use
(Sun, Cisco) so it seemd like a good stab.

This is not to say you can't go higher/change other parameters.
Would you be happer with the addition of

  It SHOULD be possible to change the RS232 communication
  settings, including the ability to operate at higher
  bit rates.

?
