Consideration of draft-ietf-radext-chargeable-user-id-05.txt as a Proposed Standard
The RADEXT WG has completed its review of the "Chargeable User Identity"
specification (draft-ietf-radext-chargeable-user-id-05.txt) and recommends
to the IESG that it be considered as a Proposed Standard.
The document is available for inspection here:
http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-radext-chargeable-user-id-05.txt
The issues discussed during development of the document are available here:
http://www.drizzle.com/~aboba/RADEXT/
The -05 version of the document resolves all open issues.
The CUI document describes a RADIUS attribute that enables a local
operator to obtain assurance that it has obtained a chargeable user
identity, even in cases where user privacy has been invoked, preventing
the local operator from learning the user identity.
While initial discussions of the document envisaged usage in a wide
variety of scenarios, eventually the WG converged on only a single usage
scenario, which usage of the CUI attribute was requested by the NAS
device. This enables resolution of issues relating to backward
compatibility.
Since the WG converged on the usage scenario, the document has not been
controversial. An appeal is not expected.
