Re: [RRG] Sceptically on compact interdomain routing

joel@stevecrocker.com:
While theoretically hierarchical routing uses logarithmic space, there are
several ways in which that turns out not to be the case:
1) ..
2) In practice there are far more than 1 prefix per AS.  This occurs for
many reasons.  The reason thet folks like Geof Huston have indicated is
largest is multi-homing.
Joel,
with today's solution multi-homing is a big nut. But this must not be so in the future.
The US is famous for the way to talk about its cities: E.g. Denver, Colorado. Miami, Florida.
The state name is always appended.
If the IP header also contained the destination AS, and eventually once this, once that destination AS for the same IP destination address, then multi-homing would not be an issue at all.
