Mid-/long-term requirements for traffic engineering in IP/MPLS networks
Dear colleagues,
Since November 2003 together with the teams of Bernard Fortz (UCL) and
Guy Leduc (ULg), my research group is participating in a government
funded research project named TOTEM whose goal is to develop an
open-source traffic engineering toolbox. The total effort of the project
is about 20 man.years during a three years period. Our objective is to
develop both intra- and inter-domain traffic engineering methods by :
- tuning the IGP, for example the link weights, or
- establishing (intra-AS or inter-AS) MPLS tunnels, or
- tuning BGP to achieve certain TE objectives
The methods that we will develop will be available as open-source tools
from the project webpage, http://totem.info.ucl.ac.be
The first release of the toolbox is targeted for end 2004.
Our three teams have already published several TE methods in the last
few years (see http://totem.info.ucl.ac.be/publications.html ). However,
since we do not run large IP networks,it is sometimes difficult for us
to know the main operational requirements for TE methods in such
networks. To better understand your requirements, we have prepared a
small survey. We would appreciate if you, or someone from your team,
could answer the questions that are relevant for your network. We are
mainly interested by your requirements for 2005-2006. You can find the
survey as a web form or an ASCII document that you can fill offline from
:
http://totem.info.ucl.ac.be/te_form.html
I would like to thank you for your help and wish you all the best for
2004.
Best regards,
Olivier Bonaventure
