dns-alg misbehavior

hi all,
consider the following situation:
an ipv6 client generates a "AAAA" query and due to some mishap(say due to
misbehavior of dns-alg) gets back a "A" reply. what will the client do? will
it silently drop the packet and assume 'destination does not exist or not
reachable' or does it wait a specific amount of time for a valid "AAAA"
response to arrive.
what happens if the situation is reversed for a v4 client?
