What's wrong with a CPE that doesn't support PPPoE for IPv4?  Wouldn't
it be acceptable then to not-support PPPoE for IPv6 either?

There might be "pure ethernet" CPEs out there, with no PPP stack in them
(my guess would be that cable CPEs do "Ethernet encapsulation/framing" but
not "PPPoE").
