oops, spoke too soon - -turns out this doesn't quite work for me.  
with this line in folders:
	/(flag:unread|flag:important)/*.archive,%inbox:pricemat/clear@mailbox126.utcc.utoronto.ca:993 "all flags"

the summary buffer fails to load and I end up with this in *Messages*:

Loading msgdb for *.archive,%inbox:pricemat/clear@mailbox126.utcc.utoronto.ca:993...done

if I just do a simple, single folder the search displays as
expected, but with a multi-folder it doesn't.  unless I have the
syntax wrong here again?
