Hi Simon -

I don’t think you need to mess with a ~/.wl config file to get started
reading mail. In the Folders buffer (what you see when you start first
WL), add an access folder (type m A; that is, `m` followed by `A`),
then enter your access folder, which will look like:

  %:me/clear@imap.gmail.com:993!
    | | | | `stream-type
    | | | `port
    | | `server
    | `authenticate-type
    `user

If you know your username and server you can play around with the
other setting until something works. stream-type is one of ! (ssl) or
!! (starttls) or [empty] (clear). Port is one of 143 or 993 (for ssl,
usually). authenticate-type is one of clear, login, cram-md5 or
digest-md5. Try login first, or clear if you are using starttls or
ssl.

Once you have an access group, hit <RET> while the cursor is on it to
get the folder available in that account. If you are prompted for a
password, you were able to connect. Otherwise, hit C-g, kill the
access group, and try some different settings.

Hope that helps get you started.

best,
Erik
