David Lamkins picked up his first guitar a long time ago. As best he can recall the year was 1967: the year of the Summer of Love. Four decades later David has conjured up an amalgam of folk, rock and jazz solo guitar music for the occasional intimate Portland audience.

A small course correction

Over the years since I've been writing about things of a musical nature, I've focussed much attention on the particulars of gear. It has always been my intention to write about that which is important to me in creating music.

As this personal journey continues, I find myself taking less of an interest in the importance of gear. You'll note, therefore, that the gear section has been pruned.

Going forward, I won't - as a rule - be reviewing new gear acquistions. My current thinking is to reserve the gear section primarily for those pieces that I consider to be the most relevant to the actual performance of music. As I write this, the gear section covers only my main rig: guitars, modeler, phrase looper and MIDI controller. These are the pieces that I use the most for performance, rehearsal and recording.

Other gear, some of which gets infrequent use as a "flavoring" (e.g. special FX pedals), or is of a utilitarian nature (e.g. tuners, DI boxes, cables), or is used for recording - no longer gets reviewed in the gear section. I may continue to cover some of these pieces of gear in the musings section from a perspective of system integration or special applications.

As the gear reviews are trimmed, I hope to turn my attention more toward music, performance and recording as well as continuing to offer my observations regarding topical subjects.
