David Lamkins picked up his first guitar a long time ago. As best he can recall the year was 1967: the year of the Summer of Love. Four decades later David has conjured up an amalgam of folk, rock and jazz solo guitar music for the occasional intimate Portland audience.

These are the specs for a new Saul Koll small archtop guitar commissioned on April 26th, 2009.

ShapeBased upon Margaret Slovak's Koll guitar.
ModificationsUpper cutaway slightly enlarged. Straight-pull headstock designed to complement shape of instrument. Pickguard design TBD. Bridge support design TBD. Output jack next to end strap pin as on Koll DL.
MaterialsTop: spruce; back & sides: maple; neck: mahogany; fingerboard, pickguard, headstock veneer, tailpiece, bridge support: ebony.
BindingNeck and headstock: single layer ivoroid; body: ivoroid, wood and black (TBD); f-holes TBD.
ConstructionFull hollow. Carved top & back. X-braced.
NeckSame profile and length as Koll DL.
PickguardUnbound, radiused; narrow to avoid blocking f-hole.
Fretboard RadiusCompound; same as Koll DL.
StringsThomastik-Infeld Jazz Swing series, JS110: 10, 14, 18, 23, 33, 44.
PickupLace Alumitone humbucker or Seymour Duncan SM-1 vintage mini-humbucker. Leaning toward mini-humbucker for aesthetics.
