BALLET PIXELLE FAQ

1. HOW DO I GET INVOLVED?

- Come to performances!

- Join the group "Ballet Pixelle". If you have no more groups available, join our subscription service which can be found in our Ballet Pixelle Theatre.

- Read the web site at: http://www.balletpixelle.org/

- And, audition as a crew member or dancer. Positions range from ushers to coordinators. Or suggest a role that matches your strength.

2. I AM A DANCER IN RL. HOW DO I DANCE WITH YOUR COMPANY?

- Very much as in First Life. You audition at a Dancers Call. Please see the Audition Information page on our web site. www.balletpixelle.org/audition.html

We can teach you how to dance. What you *must* have is commitment and dedication. This is a First Life/Second Life professional company and it is not easy work. But it is amzingly rewarding and fun! Talk to some dancers.

3. WHAT SECOND LIFE SKILLS DO I NEED?

- You need to be facile at moving fast and slow, up and down, sideways, i.e. walking, flying, ...

- You need to be able to deal with clothes and appearance and quick changes, even on stage.

- You need to be facile with invoking gestures from chat, from preview mode on gestures, from function keys, play world on anims.

4. I AM NOT A DANCER IN RL. CAN I STILL DANCE WITH YOUR GROUP?

- Sure! We welcome those who want to see what dancing is like or who cannot dance in First Life for some reason. See above :-)

5. I AM A CREATOR. DO YOU WANT TO COLLABORATE ON MUSIC, COSTUMES, SETS, PROPS, ETC.

- Submit a resume'/notecard with particulars to Calia Cachin, Assistant to the Director. We are always looking for professional collaborators.

6. WHEN WILL YOU HAVE EURO PERFORMANCES!?

- When you offer dancers, cast, and crew! Seriously, we need folks from the Euro Zone to offer to dance. We have a Ballet Mistress who can teach and rehearse you.

- However, good news. Right now, we are rehearsing our new Euro Cast to begin with our version of the Nutcracker, "The Nut", which will premiere in December 2009.

7. HOW DO YOU DANCE?

- No poseballs. No HUDs. No looping movements. We really dance with each other and the music. It's tough! The director creates animations and puts them together in choreographic patterns which we learn. Then we activate those but move on the stage on our own and we really dance with the other dancers and time ourselves to the music. Each times is different like in First Life. Art, not automation.

8. WHO IS YOUR ANIMATOR?

- Our director and choreographer, Inarra Saarinen. She creates almost all of our animations. They are crafted by hand, not by motion capture, so they take much more time to make. They are all original and not for sale. She holds copyright on hers.

9. HOW MUCH TIME DO YOU PRACTICE?

- About twice a week for two hours each time. More before a premiere.

10. HOW DO I GET MORE INFORMATION?
