Re: Internal WG Review: MIPv6 Signaling and Handoff Optimization (mipshop)

Consolidation of fast-handoff related work seems like a good thing. It is hard enough to coordinate *one* WG on the IETF side with *one* group on the IEEE side. For example, today we have regular liason conference calls to coordinate work between IEEE 802.11i and the EAP WG. Keeping two WGs in sync is challenging -- I can't imagine how 3 or more could be coordinated.

At the DNA BOF there was discussion of a liason with the IEEE Handoff Executive Committee Study Group. Since both groups are at the BOF/study group stage, one might hope that discussion might lead to clarification on both sides, but that doesn't appear to be happening. The problem is that coordination mechanisms typically only work well when there is a well defined point of contact (e.g. the WG chairs), and a mechanism for communication and issue resolution (the WG mailing list and the issue list or ballot comment list). All these conditions may not be met at the BOF stage.
