I also agree that in the long run we will not need E.164 numbers, but
as Schumpeter said: "in the long run we are all dead"

So in mid-term E.164 and URIs will co-exist.

BTW, also Skype gives you the possibility to use E.164 numbers (for SkypeOut and
soon also for SkypePlus)

The only problem with his little super SIP service is not everyone wants
to out source their PABX system to others, but they do want to take
advantage of interconnections and incoming calls from others. While
staying connected to a SIP server is one option, it's not the most
	efficent way of doing it.

Also if he's running any sort of proxy to get around NAT'ing, he could
get pressured into recording/snooping calls. On the other hand, point 2
point (and I don't mean skype, it's not proper p2p) has the ability make
it more difficult for others to listen in (not just govt's for that
matter, snooping on a bank phone line to get account numbers/pins etc
for example). With skype being closed off, makes it a little interesting
to know how good or bad their system really is until it's too late.

	Priceless.
