The Romans in Scotland:
Their Far Frontier

Professor Keppie is a distinguished Roman historian and archaeologist. During his academic career at the University of Glasgow he has divided his time between a joint appointment in the Classics and Archaeology Departments and his curatorial responsibilities at the University's Hunterian Museum, one of the richest university museums in Europe in the wealth of its archaeological collections of Roman material. He currently serves as the editor of Britannia, the leading publication of Romano-British studies. Professor Keppie's scholarship covers three quite distinct though interrelated areas of Roman studies: the development and organization of the Roman army, the study of Roman inscriptions, and Roman frontiers, with particular emphasis on the Roman occupation of Scotland. This lecture is co-sponsored by the Centre for Scottish Studies at Simon Fraser University.
