Simulations & experimentations??

Hello to all,

I am new to this field.  I found that there is a lot of standards created here.  But is there any simulations or experimentations to verify the design?  I searched the Internet but find little experimental verification of the fundamental concepts. I wonder if there is a prototype that is developed, highlighting the key design and implementation choices and experimentally investigating network performance.
