Michael,

This question periodically resurfaces. Such support is not technically challenging, the question is whether it's useful.

Such support was discussed at the time of merging all the drafts that fed into GMPLS. At the time, it was excluded as no participating provider (or vendor, for that matter) believed that it would be used in any operational context. Given this, there was consensus to not add complexity and mechanisms that would not actually be used.
