Zafar, the
routing requirements (G.7715 and G.7715.1) developed within SG15 of the ITU-T
have their basis in ASON architecture (G.8080). G.8080 in turn has
constructs (esp. routing areas) based on transport plane architecture
(G.805). Other recommendations within the ITU-T as well as outside the
ITU-T (notably the TMF814 specification) have G.805 as their basis. Both
G.8080 and G.805, as well as other work based on G.805 have had significant
carrier participation. Also, the editor of Rec. G.7715 was from
UUNET.

Deborah made a very
good point about goals of the design team during the WG meeting. Specifically,
she mentioned that the DT will work closely with ITU to "understand" the
requirements. I would really like to make sure that the requirements are
coming from the service providers and not from specific implementations. So, I
would like to see more activity from the DT in closing on the requirements in
the light of the needs of service providers, before agreeing to the
notion.
