Re: [idn] call for comments for REORDERING
Apologies for taking so long to comment on this thread. However,
given the comments from the last 48 hours, it is clear that comments
from more people are needed.
The reordering proposal and its proponent are based on the faulty
premise that there will be a need for very long domain names for the
scripts that have been reordered. The fact that there are very long
names in the Asian languages is irrelevant because there is no
assumption that anyone would use those long names in domain names.
The author seems to think that domain names have the same properties
and regular names, which is of course wrong.
It is very troubling that the proposal's author pretty much ignores
requests for clarifications with statements like "if you were a CJK
person, you would know this". He has said that to people who are, in
fact, well-known CJK experts. This is not the way that good standards
are created.
So far, there has been no significant support for the proposal, and a
lot of people objecting. I am in the latter category for the simple
reason that the proposal adds complexity and overhead to fix a
non-existent problem.
The WG should ignore this proposal unless the author can respond to
questions and concerns from the rest of the WG.
