RE: [802.1] P802.1b/D0
HI,
Thanks guys for the clarifications.
OK, so CLR is not "crapy little rules", but
"Consistency Language Rules". Sounds better,
just need to watch what you say, otherwise
people pick up on the negatives and apply
that to all.
As to the new OID values...
Well, there is a fine line.
If different OID values are being used for the "same" object
type definitions, then this is illegal, and the result is
non-interoperation. (And we all know that inter-operation
is more important than anything else. Even more important
that correctness, technical excellence, cost, or efficiency.)
However, if there are different object types being defined,
which just happen to access essentially the same instrumentation,
then this is legal, but not too efficient. This is appropriate
if some aspect of the original definition in deficient, such
as the indexing was not appropriate, or the data type specified
in the SYNTAX clause was not appropriate.
New definitions to "tidy up" most likely have higher costs
than what ever benefit they provide.
And that's my opinion.
The very Best for all today, and every day...
