The majority of deployed SNMPv1 systems don't change (and since they
don't change, there is no need to worry about Counter64 objects).
For those systems who need to support Counter64 objects, I believe
the transition to SNMPv2c is actually easier (and more useful) than
introducing an SNMPv1+ system that can wrap Counter64 in some opaque
mechanism. The point is that there are much more deployed SNMPv2c
implementations compared to the number of implementations that
support wrapped Counter64 objects in SNMPv1.
I stick to my opinion that introducing Counter64 support into SNMPv1
at this point in time is pointless.
