SNMP over Ethernet
I believe that I may
have discussed this issue with some folks before, but I do not remember the
outcome. The IEEE 802.1 WG is looking to RFC 1089 - SNMP over Ethernet as an
alternative to implement a management protocol for a class of relatively low
cost device (Two-Port MAC Relays - TPMR). The principal concern or reason they
are looking at this is that they would like to avoid the complexity of
implementing an IP stack and administrating IP addresses for these devices. My
question is whether anybody sees any problem in doing this, meaning implementing
SNMPv3 over Ethernet according to RFC 1089?
Thanks and
Regards,
Dan
