RE: jabber log from our MIB Doctor Lunch Meeting
Thanks, Harrie.
I said during the meeting yesterday that there are several reasons
people do MIBs in their WGs.
- they really need a MIB and believe that their technology needs to be
SNMP-managed
- they need a data model and SMIv2 is the best game in town for them
(for several reasons)
- (they believe that) the IESG wants them to have a MIB, but do not
really need and/or want it
I would suggest that we support the first and second category with our
reviews
I would suggest that we help the third category re-asses if they need a
MIB module or there are other options for managing their protocols or
technologies
You seem to believe that rserpool may be in the third category. Let us
gather the information if there are more groups in this situation and
discuss with the respective editors, chairs and ADs. The goal is I
believe not having a MIB at any price, but to have protocols that are
manageable and managed.
