The advantages of 16+16 over 8+8 are purely deployment ones.

The advantages of 16+16 over 4+16 depend on exactly what flavour of 4+16
you're talking of. If you're talking of the one that Brian glumly forsees as
inevitable, where the location is spread across the two fields, there *is*
an architectural advantage to 16+16.
