It's not just the implementation time and runtime resources.
As Rob pointed out, the operators would need to learn how
to use Xpath.  It's debatable whether operators will find
Xpath or this subtree filtering more complicated.

Sorry for over-reacting.
I got upset at the prospect of rehashing the entire "Xpath subset"
thread over again.
