I completely agree.
 
I think the internet was the first dealing with route computation. Meanwhile others have outperformed the IETF: route planning, car navigation.
 
It is always harder to get from 1 to 2, than from 2 to 3, because if you have just one solution you may be tempted to believe that there can't be any other solution at all. However, the IETF does have 2 solutions: one for intra-domain, one for inter-domain. I am sure, DV would also work intra-domain wise. But obviously Dijkstra is better than Distance Vector for intra-domain. So why not also for inter-domain ? I can imagine what is the quick answer, but research is something else. Not less, instead better than Dijkstra is needed.
