when i compose a header with traditional nice formatting

Cc: emiko,
kurt,
willi
it seems to be sent as
To: fred, mary, josephine
Cc: emiko, kurt, willi
and received message seem to get the same display treatment.
can i stop this gratuitous reformatting?
