------ Procedures for IANA maintained MIB modules -------

New MIB modules to be maintained by IANA

In their telechat on 21 Feb 2003, the IESG discussed if
new IANA-maintained MIB modules should be published as
(part of) an RFC. The consensus in the IESG is that the
initial version indeed is to be documented in an RFC.
The version in that RFC MUST make sure that some
statement is made that the authoritative version of
the IANA-maintained MIB module is at the IANA web pages.

Such new (and existing) IANA-maintained MIB modules that
indeed do have an initial version specified in an RFC,
should have the following statement in the DESCRIPTION
  clause of the MODULE-IDENTTY macro:

Copyright (C) The Internet Society (year). The
initial version of this MIB module was published
in RFC xxxx. For full legal notices see the RFC
     itself or see: http://wwww.iana.org/xxx.

There are also some IANA-maintained MIB modules that never
were part of an RFC. For those, the IANA is requested to
addthe following statement in the DESCRIPTION
clause of the MODULE-IDENTTY macro:

Copyright (C) The Internet Society (year). For full
     legal notices see http://wwww.iana.org/xxx.

The full legal notice as to show up at http://wwww.iana.org/xxx
is the following:

Full Copyright Statement for IANA maintained MIB modules.

An IANA MIB module and translations of it may be copied and furnished
to others, and derivative works that comment on or otherwise explain
it or assist in its implementation may be prepared, copied, published
and distributed, in whole or in part, without restriction of any
kind, provided that the above copyright notice and this paragraph are
included on all such copies and derivative works. However, this MIB
module itself may not be modified in any way, such as by removing
the copyright notice or references to the Internet Society or other
Internet organizations, except as needed for the purpose of
developing Internet standards in which case the procedures for
copyrights defined in the Internet Standards process must be
followed, or as required to translate it into languages other than
   English.
