Worry item, and sunday agenda: Directorates?

Over the years, I've somehow landed on some directorate lists.
They vary very much in how much they are used.
So I looked around...

Directorate Last mail Traffic level

dns 04-03 ~20 msgs/month (dead in Dec/Jan, though)
ipv6 14-05-2002 Dead
saag 07-03 3-4 msgs/month
subip 20-12-2002 Very few since April 2002
transport 03-03 bursty, 20-exchange discussions every 2 mnth
wireless 07-01 died out in sept 2002

directorates have had a number of good properties attributed to them, including the ability to interact with larger segments of the "leaders" of the community to make sure noses are pointed in the same direction (no comment about whether it's our noses or their noses that should change direction...), a place to make sure things that span WGs or aren't WG-ready can get an airing before making decisions, and so on.

But my look at mailing lists seems to indicate another pattern:

Directorates die.

Your thoughts?
