metacomment on the handles discussion:

note that these documents purport to describe a system that was implemented 
years ago and is in active use. it's also a document set that's going for 
informtaional, where we (the IESG) have been sitting on it since roughly 
forever.

so I'd say that comments of the type "this is described badly" are 
appropriate for the shepherding AD to forward to the author for comments, 
but comments of the type "I wouldn't have designed it this way" should be 
kept to a minimum.

OTOH, comments of the type "this is totally bogus and a security flaw" are 
fodder for an IESG note, if the author decides not to heed them.
