**Outstanding Tasks for Secretariat**
Dear IESG:
In the Telechat minutes, there are two outstanding tasks for the
Secretariat related to ID Nits:
o Secretariat to modify auto-response for Internet-Drafts submissions so
that when someone submits an I-D, a note is automatically generated which
recommends that they consider the issues listed in ID Nits before
submitting the I-D to the IESG. Auto-response to include the URL pointing
to the ID Nits page. IESG will review the auto-response text.
o Secretariat to email Working Group Chairs a reminder after each
conference with pointer to ID Nits. Secretariat to draft reminder text
and pass by IESG first.
(1) Regarding the auto-response messages:
Currently, the Secretariat sends out one of three auto-response messages
when either a note or an I-D is submitted to
"internet-drafts@ietf.org":
- A "standard" message
- A message that is sent after the cutoff date for new submissions, but
before the cutoff date for final submissions
- A message that is sent after the cutoff date for final submissions, but
before the date when processing of I-Ds resumes
I have reviewed the existing messages and edited them to improve clarity,
remove redundancy, and incorporate the reminder about ID Nits that the
IESG requested. The revised messages are presented below.
Please note that I did *not* incorporate the ID Nits reminder into
Message #3, since authors who receive this message will need to resubmit
their I-Ds, and will receive either Message #1 or Message #2, depending
on when they do so. If you want the reminder included in all of the
messages, then I will add it to Message #3 as well.
In the messages below, I have integrated the ID Nits reminder into the
text. Another option is to put a "NOTE" containing the
reminder at the end of each message. Please let me know which
option you prefer.

Message #1: Standard
Message
Greetings:
This message is being sent to acknowledge receipt of your Internet-Draft
submission or message to internet-drafts@ietf.org. If you submitted
an Internet-Draft, then it will be posted on the Internet-Drafts page of
the IETF Web site, and an I-D Action message will be sent to the IETF
Announcement List.
Please note that all Internet-Drafts offered for publication as RFCs must
conform to the requirements specified in ID Nits
(http://www.ietf.org/ID-nits.html)
or they will be returned to the author(s) for revision. Therefore,
the IETF Secretariat strongly recommends that you address all of the
issues raised in this document before submitting a request to publish
your Internet-Draft to the IESG.

Message #2: Message Sent
After the Cutoff Date for Initial Submissions, but Before the Cutoff Date
for Final Submissions
Greetings:
This message is being sent to acknowledge receipt of your Internet-Draft
submission or message to internet-drafts@ietf.org. The pre-meeting
cutoff date for new documents (i.e., version -00 Internet-Drafts) was
<insert day, date, and time, e.g., Monday, February 4 at 9:00 AM
Eastern Time>.
- If you submitted either a version -00 document, or
an update to a version -00 document that was initially submitted after
the cutoff date, then your document will NOT be processed or
retained. Please resubmit your document on or after <insert day
and date, e.g., Monday, March 17>.
- If you submitted an update to an Internet-Draft
that was initially submitted prior to the cutoff date, then your document
will be posted on the Internet-Drafts page of the IETF Web site, and an
I-D Action message will be sent to the IETF Announcement List.
As you may be aware, the pre-meeting cutoff date for final submissions is
<insert day, date and time, e.g., Monday, March 3 at 9:00 AM Eastern
Time>. Since the Secretariat receives a large number of
Internet-Drafts in the week preceding the cutoff date for final
submissions, your document may not be processed and announced for a
number of days. Our goal is to process and announce all valid
Internet-Draft submissions by <insert day and date, e.g., Saturday,
March 1> at the latest.

Message #3: Message Sent
After the Cutoff Date for Final Submissions
Greetings:
This message is being sent to acknowledge receipt of your Internet-Draft
submission or message to
iinternet-drafts@ietf.org.
Please note that the pre-meeting cutoff date for Internet-Draft
submissions was <insert day, date, and time, e.g., Monday, March 3 at
9:00 AM Eastern Time>. Therefore, if you submitted an
Internet-Draft, then your document will NOT be processed or
retained. Please resubmit your document on or after <insert day
and date, e.g., Monday, March 17>. All Internet-Drafts submitted
on or after (insert date, e.g., March 17> will be processed upon
receipt. However, Internet-Draft announcements will not be sent
until after the IETF Meeting.

(2) Regarding the post-meeting message to the WG Chairs:
The proposed message is as follows:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Working Group Chairs:
In the course of your efforts, you will be submitting Internet-Drafts to
the IESG for consideration as RFCs. Please note that all
Internet-Drafts offered for publication as RFCs must conform to the
requirements specified in ID Nits
(http://www.ietf.org/ID-nits.html),
or they will be returned to the author(s) for revision. Therefore,
the IETF Secretariat strongly recommends that you address all of the
issues raised in this document before submitting a request to publish an
Internet-Draft to the IESG. The content issues should be addressed
early on in the work since they are integral to the technical makeup of
the Internet-Draft.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
