World-renowned archaeologist and professor of classics at Randolph Macon College, Dr. Camp is director of the Agora Excavations in Athens, the longest continuing excavation in Greece. The Agora (or "marketplace") of ancient Athens was the center of economic, social, and intellectual life, as well as the birthplace of democracy. Dr. Camp has worked in the Athenian Agora since 1966 and in 1994 he became the excavation director. During the past two decades Dr. Camp has developed into one of the leading authorities in Athenian and Classical archaeology. He has written numerous articles and authored two books on the archaeological history of Athens and the Agora.
