Professor Tom Pedersen
Director, Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions (PICS)
and former Dean of Science, UVic
will be addressing the Vancouver Institute on April 10, 2010 at 8:15 p.m., Lecture Hall No. 2 in the Woodward Instructional Resources Centre, University of British Columbia.
In 2009, Dr. Pedersen was appointed the inaugural Director of PICS, a multi-centre collaborative venture among B.C.’s research universities centred at the University of Victoria. His previous positions included dean of science and director of the School of Earth and Ocean Sciences at UVic, and associate dean, research, for the Faculty of Graduate Studies at UBC. He holds a degree in geology from UBC and a PhD in marine geochemistry from the University of Edinburgh. He is also a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and a fellow of the American Geophysical Union. He is an internationally recognized authority on ocean chemistry, has published extensively in the field of paleoceanography (the history of the oceans), and has longstanding interests in climate change issues and the application of government policy to climate-change mitigation and adaptation.
