You probably have to reference some 4.2BSD software documentation.
There might be something suitable in the classic BSD daemon books, I
unfortunately do not have access to these classics anymore.

The scp program is a simple wrapper around ssh. The first comment in
the scp.c source file (openssh) says:

 * scp - secure remote copy.  This is basically patched BSD rcp which
 * uses ssh to do the data transfer (instead of using rcmd).

Finding official stable documentation for this will be difficult I
assume.
