I've been searching for a stable reference that discusses rcp, scp and sftp.
Certainly, the man pages of many UNIX-style systems, but I don't think that
qualifies as a "stable reference" for RFC purposes. I've "found" one book
in my web searches that seems to cover the material (although I don't
actually have a copy). It is as follows:

Section 3.7 SSH and File Transfers in
SSH, the Secure Shell: The Definitive Guide, Second Edition
D. Barrett, R. Silverman, R. Byrnes
O'Reilly and Associates, May 2005

If anyone has a better reference to cite, to close the issue raised by
Barnard, please let me know. Thanks! If I don't "get a better offer" I
propose to use this reference for RCP, SCP and SFTP.
