Re: [RRG] Long term clean-slate only for the RRG?

Wrt OpEx how exactly does LISP going to reduce it, and who are the
parties that are going to see that reduction ?

1) You can move BGP out of CPE routers. Cost goes down for sites when they don't have to worry about complex protocols.

2) You don't have to renumber sites ever again.

3) The level of indirection gives sites the freedom to change service providers if they are not satisfied with service or want to try a new service.

4) Sites can optimize on their CapEx by deciding how their egress *and* ingress traffic flows exit and enter the site, respectively.

Wrt control plane performance, what are the problems that LISP is
going to solve ? And if there are already existing solutions to

Look at the presentation we gave at the last RRG. We have stated the goals so many times.

these problems, then why LISP's solution is better ?

End sites have told us they want to be good Internet citizens and not inject more specific routes into their attached ISPs. They'd be willing to deploy LISP for this sole purpose. They have to justify the cost of their links so today they have no choice.

Another very important point is that the expertise for running BGP in a multi-home site is not there, so sites have to out-source at huge costs so they can use their 2 ISP links.

We developers can implement the LISP protocol where it is nearly plug- and-play. That will reduce their out-sourcing costs.
