Ron,

In "ION: Guidance on Area Director Sponsoring of Documents"
it is IMHO not at all clear how the author of an individual
submission is to select a sponsoring AD, and so I have no way
of knowing who is the right person or persons to work with.
Not intending any disrespect, but it was just a random
coin-toss that led me to you.
In "Independent Submissions to the RFC Editor", however, I am
seeing what looks like a more structured process that takes
the decision making out of the author's hands to a certain
extent and places it with an authority who presumably has
much more of a clue than me.
So, let's give that a try and see what the RFC editor says.
Maybe I'm wrong, and maybe I'll have to come back to you
again with egg on my face. But, that's why we have humility
and forgiveness.
Thanks for your time,
Fred
