When Internet Connect.app establishes L2TP/IPsec VPN connections, itinserts a bunch of host routes to all the private remote subnets, anyor all of which may have RFC 1918 addressed subnets or globallyaddressed subnets, e.g. Apple uses all of 17/8, plus several otherallocations, some of which are RFC 1918 subnets.
